Long story short, my first car, a ‘08 pt cruiser hasn’t been running because it wouldn’t start; I was told it had a bad pcm. After sitting for a year, we had it towed to my in-laws, so my brother-in-law the mechanic could look at it. Hey, it’s out of my driveway. But the plot thickens as I was just texted that some things arent factory on the wiring harness.
Electrical tape, and butt connectors. Both not factory.
The wires inside the tape.
This wire is pinched, unsure if it’s broken or not.
Weirdly, the wires are in the vicinity of the PCM.
I’ve only really take this car to one of three places in Michigan; two are dealers and the other is a random mechanic place. So I’m thinking one of two things happened. Either someone at the dealership or the mechanics place messed with the harness and said nothing. Or that I bought the car this way, and no one has informed me for 5 years that the wires are messed up. *sigh*
Currently my brother-in-law is going to reattach the wires correctly, to see if indeed, my PCM is bad or not. Everyone cross your fingers please.

I bet you bought it that way. Fingers crossed.

I’m going through the receipts right now, I’m in ‘13 and only one place has done anything engine related was the place last year.
I’m not looking to pint fingers, i just want to know which place I don’t care to visit again.
Plus, I just want the car fixed...

My bet is it was once on a buy-here-pay-here lot, and equipped with a remote kill switch, in case the payments weren’t made.

did it have any kind of aftermarket remote start or security system on it at one time? if it’s a PT Turbo, maybe there’s some sort of performance mod.
those four wires coming out of the PCM spliced to those black wires, where does that add-on harness go to?

What I’m really curious is what those wires are connected to, and where they are supposed to go.
The car was first titled in Hawaii.

It’s a base model, and incredibly slow. It was all stock when I got it. And I’m not sure where the wires go. The car is at my in laws an hour away. Though, I feel like this might turn into a soap opera, so I’ll keep oppo updated.

Its a Dodge, so with enough digging, you could find a PDF copy of the factory service manual online somewhere, which would have the PCM pinout along with a color chart for what color wires should be located and where.
Need to spend hours chasing electricals down though. Im going to be doing some custom wiring for the HEMIWagon in the future, but only because Im not a fan of sharing my project in mind with anyone.
Have you thought about maybe getting an ebay PCM thats programmed to your VIN? I did that for the Magnum, cost about $150 shipped. I plan on getting another as well. I already have a spare TCM just in case.

I wouldn’t rule out that Chrysler pre-molested it before it left the factory.

Seconding remote start/alarm theory. Or maybe a rodent took off with some wiring insulation and that’s the repair.

The thing is, is that the PCM might work a-ok, but because the wires were modified, something isn’t connecting. It could be that pinched wire, or it could be the wires in the electrical tape stopped having contact.
My brother in law is gonna re-wire everything for me, back to stock. We’ll see if the PCM works then or not.
I sent it to him because he is a mechanic, and the car had been off the road over a year now. It needs new fluids, two tires might be dry rotted, etc. I really don't have the time currently to fix it up my self. I could, just not as fast.

Why makes you say that?
